T minus 1 week…

…before we are visiting St. Louis! We are looking forward to seeing everyone in St. Louis, God willing, the Sabbath of June 19! With camp beginning the next day, it will be the usual routine, and we should be there along with the Arseneaults, and several other camp travelers, so make room!

Also, for you Rolla folks, that’s for loaning us Mrs. Opel and Mrs. Smith! My family and I got to see them yesterday, and what a treat it was! In fact, Mrs. Opel and I were on the same “ladder ball” team, and we barely lost (by one point) to my wife and Mr. Glenn Pratt, who made quite an intimidating pair, indeed. What a treasure, and we”l do our best to give them back to you in the same shape we found them in. :)

And, finally, we know that we will see some of you Columbia-folks at the camp! Yay! It will feel like a reunion.

Once, again, I hope you don’t mind me adding my Friday Night Greetings to the website here. It is below.

“Do the first works”

Cheating, tonight, and just copying my post from the Ohio LCG website. :)

Have a great Sabbath!

Howdy, all, and I hope your Sabbath is off to a fine start. The Friday Night Greetings video is below. It is a fine example of how you can tell early on when it is going to be a long video: when I start off by saying that I don’t plan on making it a long video. :) Good thing YouTube limits me to 10 minutes, huh?

I babble a bit in the video, but I actually do have a point to make: that Christ’s model for successful change is to do something and not just sit around and analyze endlessly, and the advice we’re given about changing our inner lives includes remembering to change our outer actions, whether the “feeling” is there, or not. To the Ephesus era that had lost its first love, Christ gives advice about getting that love back: “Repent and do the first works…”

We will be in Akron for services tomorrow, God willing, and then in Pittsburgh next Sabbath. But wherever you are, I pray that this evening finds you and yours in good circumstances. Have a wonderful Sabbath!

A steak-powered Friday Night Greetings

Howdy, all, and I hope you don’t mind me continuing to post Friday Night Greetings here for a while! The title refers to the one thing I was going to mention in the video but forgot: my huge thanks to my awesome wife who grilled us steaks this evening for dinner while I was slaving over pre-teen camp stuff. (And made cheesecake for dessert!)

I hope all of you are having a wonderful Sabbath and are prepared for Pentecost and all to which it points us. I know that some of you are undergoing health trials, and we are thinking of you.

Here’s the video (also available at ohiolcg.org). Have a wonderful Pentecost weekend!

Our first simulcast!

Howdy, everyone! I’m keeping it short and sweet (at least short) tonight, sitting here in a hotel near Pittsburgh. I finally have a website for the Ohio congregations — ohiolcg.org — and these Friday Night Greetings will eventually be permanently located there. But for now, we’re “simulcasting” and the FNG videos can be seen in both spots.

Have a wonderful Sabbath, you wonderful Missourians! (And Illini, too!) :)

P.S. OK, now that I’ve seen this video, I realize that the last 3 minutes of it (67%) is virtually inaudible. Apparently, we accidentally covered the microphone at that point. I will try to see if there is a place here in the hotel where I can make another video, but we might just have to make do with this one! Be back in a flash…

P.P.S. Success! I’ve posted a new Friday Night Greetings video — hopefully, we can hear all of this one! (Sorry it’s so shaky!)

Happy Sabbath from “Half Sunburn Man”!

Howdy, all! Sorry this is so late, so I will keep it brief. As I type I do not know if there will be a Friday Night Greetings video or not, because my iPhone is having a bit of difficulty uploading the video to YouTube. (Could be that my phone is simply being kind considering I have a half-sunburn on my face, and perhaps the Apple softwarre has detected I just look too goofy to be seen on the Internet…) This is attempt #3, so we’ll see.

While it is doing that, let me say that I hope all of you — kind Missourians who continue to allow me to use this webspace and my fellow Ohioans — have a marvelous Sabbath! Pour yourselves into services and fellowship, and God will ensure you receive all the more!

Well, it looks like it worked! Hopefully you can see the video below. Take care!

Howdy, all you wonderful, don’t-mind-that-I’m-mooching-off-your-webspace Missourians! I still do not have the wallacegsmith.com website set up for Friday Night Greetings videos, so I hope you don’t mind my using this locale for at least one more Friday night!

It was good to talk to a few of you in Missouri this week as we continue to wrap up various loose ends. And my thanks to young Mr. Graham for not changing any passwords on this website yet! :)

The Friday Night Greetings video is below. Whether you’re from MO, OH, or from parts unknown, have a wonderful Sabbath!

A Visitor from Ohio!

Howdy! Long time no see! :)

Actually, just getting our Internet connection done today while the movers were bringing in boxes means that I have not had time to update the wallacegsmith.com page to be able to display my Friday Night Greetings to everyone, so I hope you don’t mind a foreigner like myself borrowing your space!

More seriously, as I mention in the addition to your announcements tomorrow, our move went wonderfully smoothly and all of our belongings — however boxed up they may be — made it here safely today. And while tonight was our first night in our new home, tonight we actually get to sleep in beds instead of sleeping bags! Woo hoo!

Thanks, so much, to everyone for their prayers about this move, and your prayers were answered positively. Also, as I mention in the announcement addition, I spoke to Mr. Millich today, and he and Mr. West are looking forward to putting together new speaking schedules and beginning to get out there with you guys starting in May after the Council of Elders conference and the general ministerial conference. Mr. Millich told me that he is excited about refreshing your memories about what he looks like! :)

My Friday Night Greetings are below (I hope you don’t charge much for rent…). Have a wonderful Sabbath!

A bittersweet (and horrifically late!) Friday Night Greetings

April 10th, 2010

My apologies for being so late, tonight — it’s been quite a day! [EDIT: Actually, I note that I am finally posting this at 1:00AM! I'm afraid that I got a bit caught up in study & sermon prep and did not realize that this was not posted, yet!]

This Friday Night Greetings is a bit bittersweet, as it is the last that I will tape as the pastor here in East Missouri. I don’t get as emotional as I was last Monday (yay!), but I still couldn’t help but say a few words about how much we have appreciated serving in this area and having the opportunity to get to know and love all of you while we were here.

I will likely continue to do Friday Night Greetings after we move, though in transition I will probably put them up on the wallacegsmith.com website (which currently does nothing more that redirect to my blog).

We love you all.  Have a wonderful Sabbath, and the Friday Night Greetings are below.
